Full Moon Party in Hat Rin, KoPhaNgan, Gulf of Thailand
Here is finally my little report about the Full Moon Party on the Island KoPhaNgan, located north of KoSamui and south of Ko Tao in the Gulf of Thailand, around 500 km south of Bangkok.
Our evening started on KoSamui. We had met in our place another German, Dirk. We had decided to share the experience. He was really looking forward especially for the music. A nice guy from Cologne, who was trying to relax from his stressful job as a kitchen chief. We got driven to the Big Buddha Beach, where already a big crowd waited. The Boat Ride to HaadRin on a speed boat was very nice. Arriving at the Entrance it was already clear this would be a very mainstream event. But I had expected this. Most of the Backpackers trying to get once to such a Party. You could buy a lot of shirts, huts and other accessories, getting painted with neon colors, tattooed or whatever. Like mostly I just ignored most of the business.
We had already some Whiskey-Cola on the way (it says this Whiskey contains ephedrine) and some Red Bull. It should be a long night. Our Boat would head back around seven in the morning, so we had almost twelve hours to go. We had some more Beer and the unavoidable buckets. Horrible Stuff. The sold mostly the some Wiskey-Cola mixture we had already, Wodka-Orange or Gin-Sprite.
We discovered the whole surrounding Area and have been surprised, how small the Party Beach actually is. As we have been still very early it wasn`t too much crowed that time. Good to get an image about the Location.
Between ten and twelve o-clock it was getting more full and around two o-clock the Party was full on.
We ended up sharing two mushroom shakes, the first soft and the second very strong. Like always I needed some time to get on the right track. The first half an hour I just watched the scenery from the edge. All this crazy-painted Travellers, some looking like Tigers, Gypsies or just mad, watching the nice illuminated rock at the one end of the beach, where they have built some really nice bars.
After a while I just decided to walk some minutes on the beach to test if I really feel prepared for the crowd. Finally I ended up walking along the whole beach, following the flow, until I reached the other end of the beach, where the music just become too aggressive, the place just too packed and also the mood of a lot of the people staying there much worse. You could see a lot of early drug victims.
So I headed back to meet again with my two friends.
I was now in a phantastic mood. I didn`t felt like dancing or moving fast at all and even not to talk, but I just enjoyed being there, listening to the music and watching all these strange people, some obviously very nice, some appeared like I didn`t wanted to have any contact with them.
There was for example one guy from Croatia with a Russian Name – Igor or something – who came to us to tell us about how much he like Germans. I hate this – I don`t feel like a typical German and there has been some reasons because I left Germany as well… I don`t want to say it isn`t a nice country, but there are other reasons behind soccer, drinking culture and some few electronica music artists from Berlin… I think you get the point…
He stayed there in a bungalow at the beach front of Hat Rin with a crowd of more Russians, most of them women… He told us he met Sven Vaith on another Island in Thailand and got so much drugs. I don`t doubt it. For sure he said the truth. He was full on drugs, loud, straight forward and euphoric.
When I met him some hours later he was sweetening like hell, his girlfriend was just running away from him with all his money (she returned after a while) and he was totally down. I gave him a cigarette and he was really ashamed that I saw him in this constitution.
I don`t want to change with him, even if I know that he really had a phantastic mood before. But why like this??? What to do…
Actually my friends had already left our place, because I have been longer away than estimated.
That was all right, but it wasn`t nice that they didn`t came back to look after me.
So I stayed in this place again and again. Actually it was the most quite place on the beach, what was far away from being any quiet… And so it got filled up with more and more too drunk or drugged people, who went to sleep or in a kind of coma. What the fuck!
I left the place from time to time to have another walk over the beach, watching these crazy idiots jumping over a burning rope and getting burned. Smiling over the whole face and being in fully peace with myself, not disturbed by anything.
Or checking out all the places on the rock, in hope to find the two other guys… no chance
Finally I was thinking about leaving the island on my own, because I got bodily very tired (always not good to drink first and then taking mushrooms, the opposite is so much better).
And I had enough staying there alone. As I already wrote - I wasn`t in the mood to meet new people.
But then the reappeared and we stayed some more hours. Christoph kept on drinking and danced for a long time. But Dirk and me didn`t liked the music anymore. It was getting worse and worse the longer the night lasted. So I showed him the places on the rock, where the music was much nicer, actually exactly the music Dirk was looking for the whole night and enjoyed the magical view over the whole illuminated beach. Great!!!
Then we went one last time over the beach. Now the beach ws covered by garbage, even if some Thai workers cleaned it all the time. I was often thinking on this evening if this whole event is all right (instead of only getting mainstream) and if the people are really dreaming the right dream to change some things on this planet instead of just proclaiming: “One World – one Love”. Actually I don`t think so and I am not blaming anybody for this. But I am looking for something else or say on a different track. And I have seen people disillusioned, desperate, disappointed of not fulfilled love, sad and destroyed. But at the same time a lot of shining people, full of love, Happiness and Fulfillment, dancing in ecstasy. I don`t know if I will ever see this event again but it was very interesting and worth to go once, especially as I haven`t seen any Big Festivals before.
For sure there are some Events out there that fit better to me…
That`s for now,
One World – One Love ;-)

KoPhaNgan - Conquering the Kao Ra
Time to tell you about my latest little adventure. At the moment I am staying in a nice jungle retreat in the heart of KoPhaNgan, very close to the Kao Ra, the biggest “mountain” of this Island. It is more a hill with its 627 meters, but it isn`t really less for such an small Island (12 km North-south and about 9 km east-west). I can just recommend it. Our place is just wonderful. These time we (I am actually travelling with my friend Christoph for four weeks together) got a place recommended at our place in KoSamui, what wasn`t that exciting instead of the Full Moon Party (small report is following soon), but a good place to come down after 6 days in Bombay and another three in Bangkok.
Our place is located in the middle of the jungle. They have five really nice bungalows and a nice chill out with an amazing view and a phantastic kitchen. We haven`t been lucky with the weather, but so much better to be in such a nice place instead of being bad-mooded at the beach, waiting for sun. SO we didn`t do much the first two days, instead of reading, writing, thinking, planning and relaxing in the hummock and enjoying the food, the scenery and a good smoke…
Today the weather wasn`t still good, but it stopped to rain all the time. So we finally started our small trek to the Kao Ra, about three km away. The well-marked but small trek guided us through the jungle. Small Rivers, Mushrooms, Ferns, Palm trees and a few huge trees (the biggest around 40m tall) surrounded our ascent. Very irritating was the sounds of the crickets. I have heard a lot of them in a lot of different countries, but never these ones. When you hear them first, you can`t imagine animals producing that sounds. You think about aelectronically source. The sound is really disturbing, very, very loud and after a while it hurts in the ears and you feel like getting in trance. It could be a forbidden garden. I had to think about the creatures in the Tales of Odysseus. It’s the episode when he had to put wax inside his ears to stop hearing the tempting sounds of the beautiful but dangerous creatures.
The Humidity was almost 100 % and it was a steep ascent, especially the last km. But it was worth it. We arrived at the top and the view was zero, everything covered in clouds.
But it went better after half an hour. The clouds disappeared slowly and the view became amazing.
We could see the close coastline, the wonderful Cha Lok Lam Bay and a lot of untouched jungle.
Just perfect. We stayed finally one and a half hour on the top and made a lot of pictures.
I devoted an incense stick for the Gods, we shared our sandwich, packed in a banana leaf and had a smoke. Finally we had to go down and it was still nice even if we got tired a little. Okay, these are not the Himalayas, but the ascent was steep, the motion in the last weeks less and the humidity…
But no regrets. Check the Videos and the Pictures!
Soon we will head to Cambodia, to visit Angkor Wat and Pnom Penh. My plan afterwards is to go to Laos and finally to the Philippines. I will probably not visit Myanmar, because I heard the situation there is not really safe there in the moment. I talked on the Boat from KoSamui to KoPhaNgan with an English guy, who is already ten years abroad as a photographer. That was a very interesting conversation. He is living and working in Kabul for six months a year and the rest mostly in Southeast Asia. His fried, a journalist just left Myanmar in a lot of trouble. And he had seen people getting shot at the boarder to Thailand. SO sad, I would love to see this country. But it is also a very difficult decision if it is correct to visit this country. As you are paying government taxes you help the government, a brutal regime to get money, but if you don`t the people there stay isolated and also can`t earn anything out of Tourism.
And I still would love to end my trip in the Himalayas. Thoughts about Tibet. But this is really a very small option. But maybe I could go one more time to Ladakh. My Indian Visa allows me to visit the country until the tenth of April.
Crazy that I still (or again) can imagine to travel more and more. I am already so addicted to this life style. I am also dreaming about Hawaii, Mexico, South America and Africa. Could fill a life…
What could be more realistic is heading back from Asia to Istanbul or Rome and make from there my way back to Germany. End of April is the limit of my travel if I am not choosing to earn money in Australia. But I just think it should be enough for a while…
Let`s see. One thing is sure: It will be not my last travel and I am thinking a lot about my ideas to make an independent living. About making something out of my pictures and stories or running a small business and selling books.
And I keep meeting people from Berlin, who are telling me I would belong to this City.
The weather is still not nice, but it has to change finally. We would share a boat with three other Germans, who are staying in the same place and visit a Island National Park. Would be so great!
Keep updated. I am working a lot to put new stuff on Coconutyoga`s World.
Hope you are all well out there, without you it wouldn`t be possible. Stay true!
Much Love from Mr. Coconutyoga

Munich-London-Delhi-Manali-Leh
Hello everybody!
Hope you are fine! After a long period again a life sign from Mr. Coconutyoga. In the moment I am in Goa. Surprise, Surprise… I stayed already two months in India again. Unbelievable.
As expected it wasn`t easy to continue this travel one more time. I arrived in Delhi and just thaught what the hell I am doing there again. I didn`t wanted to stay, even just for some hours. I just took the local bus from the airport and after one hour driving through Delhi towards the Kashmiri gate (the bus-hub for the destinations in Himayal Pradesh, Kashmir and Punjab) I was done with these crazy town one more time. I think I will never get used to these chaotic cities, especially while travelling alone. I often think it would be a lot of fun to be with a friend in one of this city and just laughing about the confusion in his or her eyes, especially when (s)hes facing these chaos for the first time. And then share the experience. I think it’s a totally different feeling. Maybe one day!
So I decided to take the local bus to Manali at 3:30 in the afternoon without taking a real break after the overnight flight. There are more comfortable options to reach Manali, but the private buses are leaving much later, so I ended up to take the most uncomfortable option just to leave immediately.
And it was exhausting. I arrived in Manali the next morning and was just finished after 40 hours travelling without having more than a few hours of sleep in a very uncomfortable position.
I was happy to be again in the mountains. Very late in the season again, but I absolutely prefer these period. The last year I was in Manali alomost the same time.
Again I walked every day some hours in the mountains, enjoyed nice views and the amazing charras over there.
But I left Germany in a very bad mood and for sure my thouths didn`t changed completely only because changing the place.
So I stayed the first day almost totally alone, just talking to some few people. I couldn`t get used to be in India again and was asking myself if I did the right thing.
It just become better when I met Markus, another guy from Austria. We met up on a mountain and we did some more small treks the following days. Something it was just crazy. Climbing up extremely steep rocks where one fall down is your last or making our ways through bad thorns. Actually the same things that always happen if Mr. Coconutyoga decides to go for a walk. What to do? Often I just need this feeling. It is so good to calm the thoughts down through exercises. I feel so alife when I am facing dangers.
I had already decided not to go to Ladakh anymore but that changed as Markus had the same desire.
If Manali was already late it was crazy to go to Ladakh (another 600 miles north). The right thing for crazy people.
But it was even more crazy than I expected…
It started already in the very early morning at 5:00 when we started to wait for our minibus, which didn`t showed up at the appointed meeting point. At 6:00 we found an other driver who could bring us to “our” bus. In the beginning it was full, but most of the locals just wanted to head to Lahaul or Keylong on the half way.
We started in Manali (around 2000m), went up to the Rotang Pass what markes a totally and rapid change of the complete scenery. We came from apple gardens, uncountable trees and rocks and now we faced a much more wilder region. The Pass is already on 4200m and in should not getting lower for a while. Already last year I had been on this pass, it was already snowing (this time the pass was snowfree on that day) but head back to Manali again. Also I had an unforgotten paraglydejump from a place on the way up to the pass. Scary and beautiful at the same time. The following region is called Lahaul and has already like the close Spiti Valley a lot of tibetian influence. The last real “town” is Keylong, surrounded by mighty mountains, a lot of them between 6000 and 700nm. Keylong is in an narrow valley, almost the only place where we could see still trees in the colors of the autumn. What an amazing, stunning drive through these never ending beautiful valleys and never ending sceneries of uncredible high mountains. We have been exited the whole time, I had never seen such an intense respect of the beautiful pure nature around me. I enjoyed it so much.
But then the things changed completely. We came to a bridge, what wasn`t crossable anymore after a truck broke into the bridge. Another truck driver had tried to pass the river, but wasn`t successful and couldn`t be moved neither any more. On each side of the bridge waited around 15-20 trucks. It was already starting to get dark. Some people tried to get the second truck out of the river bad failt. Our drivers (it was a convoy of 5 Minibuses finally) watched the situation and discussed if they could cross the river anymore. That was only crazy. But also they decided there is no choice and decided to get drunk. Perfect! They started to drink a bottle of whiskey and wanted to sleep there and wait for the army the next day to solve the problem. I couldn`t believed it. And they have been not the onöy one. Npbody tried anymore the improve the situation, started drinking and some made a fire in there truck. It was getting freezing cold. Markus was very very uncomfortable with the situation and was realy desperate.
But for sure it wasn` t a nice sitation. Stucked on 4600m after ascending more than 2500 meters is not meant fore a proper acclimtisation. For sure not! After a while some few people started to unload the truck, most of them affected, because being Worker on these truck. The truck was loaded with almost 70 barrels of tar, each of them between 70 and 100 kilogram. There was a young guy who tried hios best to get the barrelas out from the bridge and up the hill. He was just wearing sandals and a shirt and was freezing extremely. I just couldn`t see that. SO ended up helping to get the barrels out from the bridge. Especially turning them upright was heavy shit. But almost nobody else then these eight people came to help. I was realy a little bit angry about the attitude of the most people who didn`t care about some poor people working hard. But whatever. After two hours we finished to unload it. I was really fucked, my stomach had began to hurt and I got headache. Often it was black in front of my eyes. But I also couldn`t stop it. I will never forget this. Finally another truck was able to pull the broken one away from the bridge and the problem was almost solved. The bridge was still damged, but nobody felt responsible to show the drivers, where the had to cross the bridge. SO I ended up to do this job for a while. Crazy! Then we continued our drive through the night. Our driver was drunk, it was almost dark but through the moonshine it was still possible to get mystical views of the surrounding mountains. As it was late already we stopped at a place with three bigger tents, where it is possible to eat, drink and sleep. Still on 4600m. We stayed there overnight. In the night it started snowing and the next morning everything around us was snow covered.
We left in the morning after this cold night. The views have been now even more impressive. After another hour we finally lost our wheel. It was clear already when we started that the wheel wouldn`t survive this journey as it had a bump from the beginning. Lucky enough i5t didn`t disappeared in the night in one of this crazy ascends or descends. Often the road was in an miserable state. I think this must be the craziest and most dangerous road in the world. After a shorter break we headed towards the highest pass on this journey on 5300m. As it was snowing we only met one other vehicle coming down from the pass. And that was a jeep, with much more useful wheels than ours without any profile, small and for sure without chains (why the hell they aren`t taking any with them?). The driver of the car warned us to cross the pass. And there was another option. 4 of the 5 drivers (even our who became more crazy the longer the yourney lasted) decided to drive around the pass. But the fith one didn`t care at all and just headed towards the pass. SO the other drivers followed. And already after 20 minutes we got stucked for the first time. At least we needed hours to get over the pass, especially on the parts in the shadow, where it was freezing cold. We almost went mad with our drivers, becaquse they didn`t cared about us one second. Even the only remaining local told us, they are mad and was full of sorrow. For Markus and me it was just getting more and more dangerous. We even had to walk up the pass and I felt almost like dying. And it is serious very dangerous not to descend after so fast ascending before. Finally we mad it and our drivers started to drive down into lower regions like maniacs. I was lucky to feel more and more air in my lunghts and the landscape became different again. It looked like a moon landscape. And then green and violet mountains appeared (probably because of the minerals). Beatiful! And then the first (very small) village after so many hours through totally deserted landscapes without any humans instead of some very small army posts. And we had seen the very hostile side of this phantastic nature.
After some more hours we finally reached the Indus valley and we have been back into civilization.
The first trees after a long time. The Indus valley is a very wide open one, often more than three cilometres from one side to the other and surrounded by mountains. The average high of this valley is 3500m. We went through this valley and could see beautiful monastiries, small villages and the mighty Indus. Finally we arrived in Leh, the capitol of Ladakh.
To be continued…

Germany
Hello everybody!
It`s a long time ago that i wrote on my blog the last time. The cause was I had a very bad time. And in this case it is almost impossible to write something useful.
Still I didn`t escaped the shadows totally, but it is getting better day by day.
It is not the right place to explain exactly what happened. Let`s say I felt very dissapointed and hurt.
So I had after two mostly nice weeks in Crete, three mostly bad weeks following. I wasn`t talking to almost nobody that time. One cause was for sure that my greek is still not good enough to communicate about more than basic things. Another that I want to be alone when I feel hurt.
And our house is around 4 miles away from the next small town and the beach as well. Sometimes I walked there but i got tired of walking after a while. And I feel sometimes like haunted by other people, when I am in just a bad period. It was really a deep, deep whole.
But it wasn`t only bad. Still the weather was very nice, i cooked every day, listened to music and read a lot of books. More than 15 finally.
I just updatet my literature section. Just check it!
two weeks ago i came back to Germany. The first two days I stayed with Ulf in Mannheim, who was so friendly to give me a nice welcome. He was waiting for me in the middle of the night, even when he had to work the next day very early. Thanks a lot!
After these two days I went to Stuttgart and stayed for some days in Gilad`s flat.
Great to feel so welcome! He just went himself to Crete today and I hope he will have a great time.
Stuttgart has changed a lot in the last months, because of the protests against the "Stuttgart 21"; great to see the city alive, maybe it is the start of a bigger movement, that will increase the direct influence on politics. That would be very nice. Meanwhile I am almost sure, that they will stop the project.
I was almost every day drunk and smoked to much to be honest. But it was just necassary after this really bad time. Sometimes I would just love to have a "normal" life withou these heavy ups and downs. But it is sitll a long path to go.
Important is not to give up, what is difficult enough sometimes.
My Birthday was very crazy, i was much to early much to drunk, so I can`t remember a lot. I think I was drunk like two horses already at nine o clock, when my best friend arrived... You just have to watch the pictures...
But I was still alive at around two o clock when we left. Or lets say I was not sleeping or dead. We had a bill around 300 Euro to pay...
And i can tell you, we have not been too many people.
Still it was nice to see all my friends.
When I saw my face the next day in the mirror, I was very surprised, because i looked like after a fight. I learned later that I tried to fight with Gilad, what wasn`t sucessfull in this state. So my face got in contact with the street...
Even more worse was what happened to two friends of mine. They have been shouting loud on there way home (they are almost sure it wasn`t insulting). Somebody stopped with his car, hit one of them in the face, the other one in the stomach and drove away again. Crazy! Christoph got so horrible pain after a while, that it was necessary to call the ambulance and he had to stay in the hospital for 4 days. He was bleeding from inside. Shit!
The taxi driver who drove Gilad, Toni and me home wasn`t to surprised when we presented a stolen chair and explained him that we just buyed it now in the middle of the night...
Crazy people, crazy birthday.
when Martkus and me visited our friend in the hospital we acted like mafiosi, who are ordered to end our murder. "Do he think he can hide here in the hospital, Luigi?"
"Give me the pillow"; "I don`t like it when unguilty people get ivolved in that shit"
For sure we had to wear sunglasses and tried not to laugh.
Let`s say the people have been kind of irritated.
Whatever, you see, I am very far away from getting back to a serious life.
Actually I am staying in Bremen with my parents and I am trying to do something useful. And this is writing a lot for my book. That isn`t a nice or easy work, as anybody knows who tried to write. Sometimes I think I should stop to write about bad memories, because it is getting to painful sometimes, but after a while I know again, that I have to do it. It is so necessary to reflect the things and give them a place outside of my mind.
Maybe I get more free this way.
And I have seen Berlin finally. I just had some hours, but it was very interesting.
In some days I will head back to the south of Germany. The next weekend we will have a meeting from our education and I am looking forward to see some people agein.
And soon after I will head back to India!!!
I hope I will be still able to visit Ladakh, before it is not possible anymore because of the weather conditions. Varanasi and Calcutta are waiting ass well.
And this time I will make it to visit kerala and Hampi in the indian South. And to come to Goa is no question as well.
I know, plans are changing all the time, but I am almost sure that Cambodia and Thailand will follow as well.
Around May 2011 it is probably over with travelling for a longer time.
I hope I will have the power to make this plans true.
Anyway, I try to write more often again and hope you are well!!!
Much Love,
Mr. Coconutyoga
P.S.: also check the new pictures in the second last blog entry and the two videos in the last! A Tribute to phantastic Junkerry will also follow soon!
oh...before I forget: don`t drive drunk with the bike...can be painful as well...
